At the heart of the museum is one of the largest dinosaur fossil collections in the country, much of it unearthed right in Montana. Marvel at towering Tyrannosaurus Rex skeletons and the massive skull of “Big Mike,” one of the most enormous T. Rex skulls ever found. Interactive displays let visitors watch fossil preparation first-hand.

Beyond dinosaurs, the museum’s artifact collections offer insights into Native American life and western frontier settlement. The Tinsley House provides a living history experience, with costumed interpreters demonstrating late 19th-century homesteading. The museum also manages an impressive archive of historic regional photographs.

Temporary exhibits have covered diverse topics like African-American art, TV costumes, and weapons of the American West. As a Smithsonian Institution affiliate, the museum frequently features traveling Smithsonian exhibits as well.

While renowned for its paleontology, the Museum of the Rockies offers an all-encompassing look at the Rocky Mountains’ natural diversity and cultural heritage. From ice-age mammoths to 20th-century cowboys, it brings this region’s epic history to life. Visitors of all ages find inspiration in its vast halls.
