Known for being the first national historic site in America, the Salem Maritime museum is an interesting stop along your journey. This site is great for those interested in learning about the early maritime history of the New England coast!

Preserved as a National Historic Site in 1938, the Salem Maritime Historic Museum stands as a symbol of the nautical past. This port was used as a popular location for the distribution of goods during the 1600s to the 1800s.

Cotton, sugar, textiles and rum were commonly passed through the port. Buildings at the museum date back to the late 1600s and have been well preserved.

The Salem Maritime Museum is located on Derby Street just a few blocks from the House of Seven Gables.
