Named about the hiker that once attempted to climb this 14,115 foot mountain, Pikes Peak stands as one of the tallest points in the United States. It is also a very popular Rocky Mountain destination for travelers.

In the fall of 1806, Zebulon Pike attempted to lead his men up the mountain to the top of the summit. They failed after reaching very deep snow and running out of food and water. Despite this attempt, the mountain was then named in honor of the hiker.

Over the years this mountain has been an iconic symbol but not only Colorado but also the Rocky Mountains. Each year thousands of tourists come to see the spectacular sights that are offered from the top of summit.

How to Visit

Pikes Peak is about an hour drive from Colorado Springs, Colorado. There are several ways to reach the summit. The first way to drive up Pikes Peak Highway which can be steep and very winding roads.

The second way to reach the top of the mountain is by the Broadmoor Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway. This is a train that will take you to the top of the summit.
