This cave is home to one of the world’s largest stalactites at an amazing 21 feet! Kartchner Caverns have over 2 miles of passageways that lead through the beautiful underground system.
Surprisingly enough, Kartchner Caverns were not discovered until the 1970s. In 1974, when two cave finders discovered a sinkhole in the ground. They went to the bottom of the sinkhole to find an entrance into a large cave system.
After their discovery the state of Arizona opened the caverns to the public for tours. Since then it has became a state park and expanded to include hiking trail and overnight lodging.
There are many spectacular hiking trails that climb over the top of the caverns. The views from the trails are amazing as you can see for a long ways. Camping and rental cabins are available for overnight accommodations art the park. There is a separate admission charge for cave tours.
