When the University of Alaska was founding in 1917, part of its creation insisted on the requirement of hosting a museum on campus. Over the years this museum has grown to have many artifacts accumulated for display.

Some of the exhibits on display include the Gallery of Alaska, Rose Berry Alaska Art Gallery, Collections Gallery as well as outdoor exhibits. The museum also has changing exhibits that bring new information and displays to visitors.
