The final resting place of famed Hollywood actress Katharine Hepburn lies in one of the most prominent cemeteries in Connecticut. Known for her iconic roles for over 70 years in films loved across America, Ms. Hepburn is buried in her family plot in Hartford.

Born on May 12, 1907, Katharine Hepburn was raised in the city of Hartford, Connecticut. She was one of six children of Thomas Hepburn, a urologist and Katharine Houghton, a feminist activist.

Katharine followed in her mothers’ footsteps in the fact of her independent values and strong determination. As a child she learned her love for acting. She would put on plays for the neighborhood and proceeds would go to various charity campaigns such as for the Navajo people.

While visiting her aunt at the age of 13 in New York, she discovered her brothers’ body after he commit suicide when he was 15. She struggled with his death and refused to go to school. Her parents had her privately tutored.

Hepburn attended college at Bryn Mawr and graduated in 1928. She even performed theatre with the college. She traveled and performed with various theater groups after college. She officially made it to Hollywood in 1932 at the age of 25 and the rest is history.

Hepburn starred in many famous films including Bringing Up Baby, The African Queen, The Philadelphia Story and On Golden Pond. 

Ms. Hepburn lived to be 96 years old when she passed away in 2003.

Cedar Hill Cemetery is located at 453 Fairfield Avenue in Hartford, Connecticut.
