The Yaquina Head Lighthouse has stood on the shores of Oregon facing the rough seas of the Pacific Ocean for over a century. In fact, it is the tallest lighthouse in Oregon. Located within the Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural area, this lighthouse is surrounded by rocky cliffs and diverse tide pools.

Built in Paris, France, the Yaquina Head Lighthouse was shipped to Oregon and constructed at its current site. The lighthouse was first lit in 1873 and is still in operation today.

On a journey of 114 steps to the top of the 93′ tower, lightkeepers were tasked with the chore of managing the lifesaving beacon. The lighthouse was automated in 1966, but it still uses the 1st Order Fresnel Lens made in 1868. It has a visibility of about 18 miles out into the Pacific Ocean.

The Yaquina Head Lighthouse is located at 750 NW Lighthouse Drive in Newport, Oregon. Limited tours are available of the lighthouse. For more information on visiting the lighthouse and surrounding natural area, please visit the official website here.
